The JKSRTC operated the first vehicle across khardung La Pass at 18,380 ft in 1962. Public
transportation in Jammu & Kashmir is provided by the Jammu & Kashmir
State Road Transport Corporation. In order to facilitate the
commuters JKSRTC runs different types of services based on the need of the passengers. The transit facility
provided by JKSRTC is very affordable and comfortable. JKSRTC runs following services to cater the needs of
the public. JKSRTC runs interstate buses to the adjacent states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana,
Rajasthan and Delhi and also provides airport transfer services.
Tourist services : JKSRTC runs buses to some of the tourist locations in the state of Jammu & Kashmir
from within the state and also from adjoining states of Rajasthan & Delhi. Under this service it runs
hi-tech, super-deluxe, semi-deluxe and ordinary buses or vehicles. The ordinary buses are very economical
and affordadable compared to other bus types.
District services: This service connects different districts and villages of the state. This service
cater the needs of the people for public transportation that are in the deepdown villages of the state.
Interstate services: Bus service is provided to the adjoining states and to facilitate interstate commuters to travel in between the states. The service is excellent and very affordable.
